The concert inaugurated a new programme by The Music of the Place Studio, Follow the Sound. The programme is a series of concerts based on field recordings. Outstanding sound artists will bring music to unexpected locations across our region. Each concert venue will be carefully matched to the artist's creative language. We will be guided by sound itself—the natural acoustics of each place and its unique audiosphere, shaped by its architecture, the season, and the presence of wildlife.
In complete darkness, Izabela Dłużyk presented a sonic narrative about the cyclical process of renewal and rebirth—spring. It was a message filled with affirmation and hope, woven from the sounds of cracking ice, flowing forest streams, amphibians, and, above all, birdsong.
Following the sound narrative, Izabela Dłużyk answered questions from the audience.
Izabela Dłużyk is a Polish sound recordist and field recording artist. Blind since birth, she has developed an exceptionally acute sense of hearing. At the age of twelve, she began recording birdsong with a portable recorder, and today she can identify around 200 bird species solely by their calls. In 2023, she was recognised by the BBC as one of the 100 Women, the world's most influential and inspiring women.
