The Borderland is proud to announce another edition of the Mystery of the Bridge annual performance. This year’s edition, called “A tear-boat” (“Łódź-łza”) will take place in the space of the Invisible Bridge.

The 2024 event is the performance for two voices and a musical instrument and resembles a philosophical dialogue dramatically enriched by the meditative music which has been composed especially for this particular occasion.

The script of the event was based on the letters exchanged by two thinkers, Krzysztof Czyżewski and Tadeusz Sławek, both engaged in the refugee crisis, and in the critical interpretation of hospitality and the ethics of solidarity. The crucial point of reference in the performance will be the boat from the island of Lampedusa where, thanks to the boat, a woman, her new-born baby and fifteen men sailed from Africa across the Mediterranean.

The boat, which was brought to Poland thanks to Jarosław Mikołajewski and the support of the Signum Foundation, has been turned by the Signum into a mobile monument that is the homage paid to the refugees.

The authors of the letters wish to continue their correspondence as the monument will be travelling in Poland. It is hoped that apart from the letters of Krzysztof Czyżewski and Tadeusz Sławek, the performence will be enriched by other voices and comments – especially those from the youngest generation of Polish people.
