The Mnemosyne from Sejny: March

The Mnemosyne from Sejny in March

The Borderland started a new educational programme in September. It is addressed to high school students from Sejny and the surrounding area.

In March, two sessions dedicated to the Mnemosyne from Sejny programme took place.

First, at the building of the 3rd Alfred Lityński Secondary School, we analysed excerpts from archival recordings and interviews. We discussed interviewing techniques, ways of asking questions, and the value of genuine follow-up questions and attentive listening. All this was aimed at preparing the participants to conduct their own interviews on the political and social transformations after 1989.

The second March session took place in Krasnogruda and Olsztyn. This time, we focused on sound. Our guide was Maciej Wirmański – a sound artist working with field recording, a sound designer, music producer and composer. During the full-day workshop, we explored the basics of working with sound: from the simplest information about equipment, through composition and recording techniques, to editing and working in post-production with audio material that we recorded in the park in Krasnogruda.

In the evening, Piotr Myszczyński spoke about how narratives and images of the Teutonic Order were shaped in the 19th and 20th centuries – this served as an introduction to our visit to the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn.

We set off early in the morning to the historical capital of Warmia. At noon, we met at the BORUSSIA Centre in Olsztyn. The highlight of the weekend was a visit to the Stefan Jaracz Theatre, where we watched The Teutonic Knights, directed by Jan Klata.
