It was another concert from the series launched in order to reinterpret Jewish music associated with the Yiddish world that was a constitutive element for the Borderland culture.
The purpose of the Raft series is to provide the young people from Sejny with the history of the Jewish music and the Jewish people of Sejny. Apart from playing a concert, the musicians from the Klezmer Orchestra take part in the workshops led by the US guests.
Musicians’ Raft is subtitled: Between Sejny and New York. Thus, it links one of the most important cities and centres of the global world where the Jewish immigrants from Central Europe settled down and a little borderland town which is the epitome of all the shtetls where Yiddish culture used to flourish.
Frank London is a New Yorker, a trumpet player and a bandleader. He established a lot of influential groups that have attempted to re-interpret Jewish music. One of the most famous ones is Hassidic New Wave. Frank London and another group that he leads, the Klezmatics, was awarded with Grammy.
