After completing her pedagogical studies in 1985, she started working at the Municipal Cultural Center in Czarna Dąbrówka in Kashubia, as a director, where she worked until 1991. In the years 1987-1990, she co-implemented the "Village Meeting" project, with the participation of alternative culture creators from Poland and around the world. Since March 1991, she has been working at the "Borderland - arts, cultures, nations" Center, of which she is a co-founder.
She has been running a theater workshop with children for many years and is the leader of the "The Sejny Chronicles" program. With the children's theater, she directed the performances "Rose" and "The Sejny Chronicles", which were presented in many Polish cities, among others at the International Malta Festival in Poznań, and in Bosnia, Lithuania, Germany and Denmark. In 2008, "The Sejny Chronicles" were shown at the La MaMa Theater in New York, where 8 performances were presented, and in 2011 - in Madrid as part of the Encuentro de Teatro Comunitario (ETC) festival.
She is the author of an innovative intercultural education program for children, which is implemented in Sejny schools and has become a model for schools in other regions of Poland. She is also the co-creator of the program entitled "The Glass Bead Game", devoted to cultural work on the memory and identity of a place, which was carried out in cooperation with many centers in Poland and Europe.
Since 2010, she has been running an internationally award-winning film project entitled "The Film Collection of Borderland Fairy Tales” which has already had nine editions: "Legends, Fables and Fairy Tales", "Songs of Borderlands", "Borderland Tales", "Krasnogruda Tales", "Mysteries of Childhood", "Keepsakes", "Old Neighbours", "Family Treasures", "Home stories". Moreover, she deals with the history and culture of the Gypsies-Roma, and runs the Gypsy department at the Documentation Center. She implemented programs such as "Gypsy Artistic Village" and "Tabor", which took place in villages inhabited by the Roma community.
Bożena Szroeder is the deputy editor-in-chief of the Polish-Lithuanian magazine "Almanach Sejneński".
- Winner of the Award of the Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in the field of artistic creation, dissemination and protection of cultural goods 2008/2009.
- Winner of the Honorary Irena Sendler's Award "For Repairing the World" (2012).
- In 2019, she became an Honorary Citizen of the Kadzidło Community.
- In 2020, The Jerzy Boniecki PolCul Foundation awarded Bożena Szroeder with "Autumn 2020 Award" for creating the artistic and educational project "The Sejny Chronicles" implemented by school youth for over 20 years.
